Some Tips for Christians at Halloween

With Halloween only a few days away I thought I would share a few tips on how Christians might navigate this day of the devil…

  1. Don’t call it “day of the devil.” For the VAST majority of people, Halloween has little, to nothing to do with devils, Satan, Satanism, or worshipping anything for that matter. Don’t make it a thing it’s not for most people.
  2. Get out. Take your kids our Trick-or-Treating in your neighborhood. There is hardly another time in the year to see as many people our walking around their communities. Be out there with them.
  3. Be nice. Whether you’re out Trick-or-Treating or passing out candy at home, be nice. Smile. Talk to people. Comment on the kids fun costumes. And if you really want to be Christian nice, give out good candy! Skip the toothbrushes, apples, or coupons to the dentist and go with Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (and if you’re really spiritual nice, you’ll go full sized).
  4. Have fun! Calm down and have fun. So often Christians are seen as being afraid of, or unable to have, fun. Halloween can be fun without having to be scary or gory. Pick a fun and appropriate costume. Go to Halloween parties. Celebrate that individuals would actually knock on your front door when that rarely happens from someone other than a delivery guy.
