Trying to understand the RFRA (Religious Freedom Restoration Act) that was recently signed into law here in Indiana may not be as simple as ‘yes’ or ‘no’ but most would agree the confusion surrounding the intent of the law has generated not only strong reaction but strong emotions nationwide. I find it interesting that this is all taking place during the Church’s Holy Week.
While confusion around RFRA remains, one thing remains certain, Christ came to serve, not be served (Matthew 20:28). This example of selfless love is what the events leading up to Easter are all about. Not only has Christ done this for us but he calls us to do the same for others (John 13:15).
This much is clear, we as Christians are called to serve all. Christ removed the luxury of deciding who we would or wouldn’t serve when he served us to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:8).
So whatever the law might say, eventually say, or what you think it might say, as individuals who are attempting to follow Christ, may we continue to walk in the footsteps of the One whose death and resurrection calls us into the freedom of loving God and serving all.
